This is my maths work for this week! class 7 have been learning fractions during the term, this is some of what I have learnt
No girls allowed response to text
This is my response to text about “no girls allowed” it has some information about the story in it and what happened during it
simple, compound or complex
This is my writing work, i might have gotten some wrong but i still tried
The force – response to text
This is my response to text for this weeks book called ” The force”. It is about a boy named Harper not being too scared to jump of a bridge (into the water of course) but his brother Max wanted to jump off the bridge but also wanted his brother to as well.
Extention Maramataka project
This is my scratch project that i have been working on for extension. It is a maramataka, a maramataka is a maori lunar calander that was used years ago. I couldn’t finish my project but there is still some coding and you can see all the names from on the maramataka. press the green flag button to reset and press “next” and “back” to switch to the next and last slide, and to make the maramataka rotate press the ‘space’ button
Mars-Our new home?
Mars –
Our New Home?
Think carefully about each question, and use evidence from the texts to support your conclusions. Write your answers in full sentences, and use explanations and examples where needed.
Surface Level: Find the Answer in the Text
- What are some similarities between Earth and Mars?
They both have valleys, mountains, weather, seasons and even volcanoes and ice caps |
- Humans would find it challenging to live on Mars without what?
water,food,shelter |
- What are the 3 things that the article says are making our planet Earth unlivable?
Pollution, climate change and us |
Inference: Use Clues from the Text to Think of an Answer
- Explain in your own words why scientists are exploring the possibility of a move to Mars?
If Earth gets harmed and we can’t change it we might have to move to mars |
- What are some challenges that humans would face if there was a move to Mars?
It would take 7 months to get there |
- Why do you think plants will be so important to the terraforming of Mars?
Because there are no living things on mars and because plants produce food like fruit’s and vegetables. |
Unfamiliar Words: Clarifying Language that may cause Misunderstanding
Word | Sentence from the text | Definition |
Enthusiast | A planet called Mars, located 342 million kilometres away from Earth, has captured the imagination of scientists and space enthusiasts alike. | having or showing intense and eager enjoyment, interest, or approval. |
Potential | Let’s take a closer look at Mars and the potential of humans moving there. | latent qualities or abilities that may lead to future success or usefulness |
Abundant | While Earth is beautiful and abundant, we must face the reality that our actions are harming our planet. | existing or available in large quantities |
Generate | We would need to find ways to grow food, create sustainable habitats, and generate the resources necessary for survival. | produce or create. |
Global Inferencing: Making Connections between the Text and the Wider World
Would you want to be one of the first people living on Mars?
Come up with solid reasons for your choice, and provide evidence, and examples to support your reasons.
No, because I would rather have someone else going before me so I know what to expect when I go to mars and so I know what I need when going to mars. |
Golab warming
Global Warming
Think carefully about each question, and use evidence from the texts to support your conclusions. Write your answers in full sentences, and use explanations and examples where needed.
Surface Level: Find the Answer in the Text
- What is global warming?
Global warming is something that produces heat and has a big effect on the world |
- What are greenhouse gases?
Greenhouse gases are the gases that cause global warming/climate change by trapping heat from the atmosphere. Greenhouse gases can also be called the earth gases |
- How does global warming affect the temperature and weather?
It makes the temperature rise |
Inference: Use Clues from the Text to Think of an Answer
- How do you think global warming causes sea levels to rise?
Its melting glaciers and the water from the glaciers go into the ocean causing it to rise |
- What do you think could be the consequences of extreme weather for humans and animals?
The water would be too hot, there would be droughts, wildfires, and more that could harm us |
- How do you think global warming affects the survival of different species and the food chain?
It would be hard to survive and our food might not be as fresh or healthy |
Unfamiliar Words: Clarifying Language that may cause Misunderstanding
Word | Sentence from the text | Definition |
Biodiversity | Global warming is a serious problem that affects our planet in many ways. The rising temperature, melting ice, changing weather patterns, and loss of biodiversity are just some of the things we can see happening. | Different types of animals, plants and fungi on earth |
Renewable | We can take action to help by saving energy, using renewable resources | Something that can’t be used or can easily be replaced |
Sustainable | If we work together, we can reduce the effects of global warming and make a healthier, more sustainable future for ourselves and the generations to come. | Keeping something healthy |
Environment | We can take action to help by saving energy, using renewable resources, and supporting rules that protect our environment. | Everything around us |
Global Inferencing: Making Connections between the Text and the Wider World
Imagine you are living on a small Pacific Island, and you notice the sea level rising. You have to act quickly in order to save your village from the rising water. What do you do?
You can write a narrative or an explanation to describe what you would do.
I would get some help and we would build barriers to prevent the water drowning our island, and just in case we would tell everyone to stay inside and keep safe |
explanatory writing planning
This is my planning for my last posted “Climate change”. I added some new things to my actual piece of writing but these were my ideas!
climate change
Your task is to explain
what Climate Change is, and what impact it has on Earth. |
Begin your writing here:
What is climate change? Climate change changes the temperature and increases the heat on earth. It happens because of greenhouse gases (the Earth’s gases). Greenhouse gases trap heat from the sun and stop it from going back into the atmosphere causing global warming. How is climate change changing? Temperatures are now rising all around the world due to greenhouse gases trapping more heat in the world and global warming, global warming is the earth’s rising temperature, while climate change is the “side effects”. Climate change is really dangerous (and global warming). Why Is Climate Change bad? Climate change is bad because it is causing more intense droughts, storms, heat waves, melting polar ice and rising sea levels, and causing wildfires. There is still much more climate change can do that could harm us. How will earth be affected if we don’t slow/stop climate change? If we don’t slow/stop climate change there would be more wildfires, droughts, the water would be too hot and could harm us, animals, and the Earth, there would be more storms, and much more that would harm us, animals, and the Earth. |
